CIVIL WAR MEDALS & BADGES

This page includes pro-Union and Confederate medals and badges, along with hopeful candidate and patriotic medals and badges of the period.

Dogtags were carried by soldiers during the Civil War as a means of identification.  The reverse of dogtags (1861-11) were generally engraved with the name of a Union soldier and perhaps a list of his battles.  The reverse of this particular example is blank.
