JOHN FREMONT MEDALS & BADGES

(1856 & 1864)

 

    Republican Party loser in 1856 (first Republican Party candidate).  Withdrew from the 1864 race.

    1856-4 is an example of medals being produced by a diecutter for each of the candidates.  The dies were cut by F.B. Smith and Hartmann and sold for fifty cents in copper and 25 cents in white metal.
